This seminar introduces a three-step strategy for improving the reproducibility of animal studies while reducing the number of animals required for in vivo research.
It distinguishes three key experimental design types—pilot studies, hypothesis-generating experiments, and hypothesis-confirming experiments—and explains how they can be combined to address a scientific question.
By clearly separating exploratory work from confirmatory testing, issues such as controlling the false-positive risk, conducting statistical hypothesis testing, and performing power analysis can be positioned appropriately.
